Over half of UK office workers waste time dealing with phishing. No, not fishing – phishing.
In a recent survey by workplace designers Maris Interiors, 52% of employees have to start their day by deleting scam emails from their inbox.
This process, known as phishing, is on the increase – and one in ten office workers receive more than five such emails every single day. Whereas, happily, less than 1% of respondents have been duped by a scam, the majority surveyed (55%) have said they have been given cause to think twice about a phishing email.
The tricks phishers use may seem comical, even outlandish, but evidently the relatively small number of people who do respond make it worth the scammers’ time.
David Cannon, Managing Director of Maris Interiors, explains: “Some are easier to spot than others – every IT department should brief their employees on the ways to spot a phishing email. But the old adage still holds: if it sounds too good to be true – it probably is!”
