Success is in the attention to detail. It makes sense doesn’t it?
If your fit-out partner pays attention to the details they are going to be able to control cost and programme and also deliver a high quality result.
There will also be no variations and slippage at the back end of the project.
Attention to detail starts at the beginning (a very good place to start!). If you don’t find it here you won’t find it anywhere later in the process.
The fit-out company’s documentation should be clear and concise; well presented and written in good English. If it’s not it’s a good sign of what’s to come!
If you are satisfied that everything is just as it should be then there is a good chance that your fit-out company will snag during the process and not at the end, and they will identify issues before you do and fix them before you know.
After all, what is snagging other than a construction industry excuse! You wouldn’t accept delivery of your new car without wheels or with a scratch on the door, so why should you accept a half-complete office fit-out?
The only way to be certain you’ll get what you deserve is to visit sites in progress and ask about their attitude to snagging. If they answer the question by telling you that you’ve got a retention clause and a defects liability period in the contract to protect you, then they are fobbing you off. Accept nothing less than a snag-free fit out!
