If you could wave a magic wand, what would you change about where you work?
According to a new survey by workplace designers Maris Interiors, the answer is, unsurprisingly, ‘quite a lot’.
On people’s wish-lists (35%) would be eliminating office politics – an office where everyone just got on. 41% say they’d like see telecommuting to be more accepted, even encouraged. Certainly a realistic aspiration – unless you work, say, as builder.
Also featuring highly would be a computer / IT upgrade. 30% of us would like to update our ageing beige computers, so we wouldn’t have to spend half the morning booting up our PCs.
18% say they’d like their office to have nicer or more comfortable furniture. Clearly when many people were filling out the survey, their own creaky swivel chair was too much of an annoyance to ignore. And – perhaps unsurprisingly – 86% wanted a pay rise!
David Cannon, Managing Director of Maris Interiors, says, “Lots of these things sound costly or impossible, but that’s not really the case. Why not think about a furniture or IT audit from a workplace consultation – it might be a lot cheaper than you think. But getting rid of office politics? Good luck with that!”
