BAKU Restaurant Delighted with Maris' Design
January 2012
BAKU Restaurant at 164-165 Sloane Street, London SW1X 9QB are delighted with the interior design and fit-out undertaken by Maris Interiors LLP.
BAKU Restaurant is London’s premier Azerbaijani destination and many will remember 164-165 Sloane Street being the previous premises of Gordon Ramsay’s La Noisette restaurant and Jamie Oliver’s Montys.
The restaurants vision is to take guests “on an inspiring journey into a unique culture”, thoughts that are shared by top chef, King Day who is producing an inspiring menu that reflects this journey and culture.
United Enterprises International (UEI), an Azerbaijani Private Equity firm, purchased the property on Sloane Street in 2010 as well as acquiring 9,200 square feet of commercial property at 2 Queen Anne’s Gate, SW1, marking the first foray into the UK office market for the Azerbaijani company.
Maris’ interior design team worked closely with UEI and their advisors to completely remodel the environment for BAKU, including major structural works to connect the vertical journey through the restaurant, linking to a stunning bar on the top floor.
UEI desired a space for BAKU that would incorporate the Azerbaijan culture and link to their traditions, as well as have a French renaissance and art nouveau feel to include their sister city of Bordeaux, France.
The property covers three floors. The Ground floor with Maître d’ leading, via the grand staircase to the first floor encompassing the main restaurant, an open kitchen with an authentic clay Tandoor oven and private dining space. The private dining space incorporates stand-alone climate control, lighting and cutting edge sound systems.
The second floor includes a spacious open plan lounge and bar area that is introduced by a stunning 20metre led light glazed window feature that incorporates rarely seen levels of traditional craftsmanship. This feature is off-set by a hand painted mural that envelopes the bar and evokes themes of Azerbaijan.
The creative interior design scheme was tailored for BAKU to integrate aspects of Azerbaijan craftsmanship, including LED lighting, specialist hand painted murals and the intricate metalwork. Every fixture and fitting was designed by Maris and was completely bespoke, including the upholstery, fabrics and furniture.
Maris’ Interior Design Director commented, “We are delighted to work in partnership with UEI on this exciting and unique concept in bar and restaurant design for BAKU. We have worked with the UK’s most prestigious craftsman to realise UEI’s vision. The importance with a scheme that represents Azerbaijan’s rich heritage and culture is to be sympathetic to the traditions of the past as well as the visions and aspirations that it holds for the future. We are incredibly proud of this project”.
Maris’ Senior Partner commented, “It is unusual to find a single project so thoroughly integrated with expert craftsman, using methods of working from a bygone era. The finished project for BAKU is a testament to outstanding interior design and uncompromising fit-out delivery”.
