Qatar Islamic Bank

Client Background

Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) was founded in 1982, becoming the country’s first Islamic financial institution and Sharia’-compliant bank. Its products and operations are supervised by a Sharia’ board, which ensures the Bank adheres to Islamic finance principles.

QIB has been internationally recognized by a number of bodies as the ‘Best Islamic Financial Institution in Qatar.

Points of note

The design vision for the new West End office for QIB takes on the characteristics of the existing period building, blended with a modern aesthetic to form a simple, timeless environment with impeccable detailing. The restrained mix of rich materials have been carefully selected and developed to form a palette to excite and interest, shaping a contemporary space with texture and subtlety, reflecting the global status of the business.

The fusion of traditional detailing with a modern tilt, provides an experience for both Clients and staff which is of luxurious quality, with dynamism but also private. The use of layering materials and textures to surfaces, bespoke joinery, carefully positioned architectural lighting and beautiful furniture is key to the design.

On the ground floor we have designed a Client lounge; a hub for engagement with the business. This space will be a hive of activity with the highest levels of personal service. The 1st floor contains open plan workspace situated within the beautiful interior of this listed building.

The boardroom, on the 2nd floor, is the premier room for large format meetings. A decorative feature light is set off the ceiling slab to provide controllable scene setting lighting. Nearby is the CEO’s office, its location and proximity to key members of staff will enable best use of the CEO’s valuable time.

There is a staff breakout area located on the basement level. This space will be enjoyed by all staff and in a multi-functional building provides a common space to meet and enjoy. The route through this magnificent building is via a beautiful dark wood 20th century staircase constructed in 1949.
